BREAST AUGMENTATION

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed in order to increase the size and enhance the shape of the breasts. It consists in the placement of breast implants made out of silicone or saline. There are many reasons for undergoing a breast augmentation, and having bigger breasts is just one of them. For example, it is one of the most effective procedures for correcting breast asymmetry. Also, some women undergo this surgery in order to restore the fullness of their breasts after giving birth and lactating. Without a doubt, this procedure improves the self-esteem of the women who seek it.

Each breast augmentation surgery offers a unique and different result. Over the years, new techniques and technologies have been developed. These allow an array of different choices in regards to the type of surgery to be performed. One of these decisions is the type of breast implant. First of all, there’s the filling of the implant: saline, silicone gel or highly cohesive silicone gel. Then there’s the shape. There are round and anatomic breast implants. The round ones provide a bigger volume to the upper region of the breast and have the same length than width. On the other hand, with the anatomic breast implants (also called teardrop implants), the surgeon may choose the length and width independently and thus has more control on the final shape. These, on top of other modifiable choices like the size of the implants and the type of incision, allow each breast augmentation to be a personalized procedure, with results that depend on the patient’s needs and desires.
