RHYNOPLASTY
It has been performed since the year 500 B.C.; it is one of the most common and versatile cosmetic procedures, as well as being highly adaptable for each patient. It is a surgical procedure consisting in changing the shape of the nose. It can be increased or reduced, the shape the tip could be changed; even the shape of the bridge of the nose and the nostrils. Sometimes, a patient on top of his desire for the cosmetic procedure has the need for an anatomic correction because of having trouble breathing and both of these can be done during the same intervention. The nose doesn’t stop growing until the age of 16, which is why this is the minimal age to undergo one.
A reduction rhynoplasty reduces the size of the structures of the nose, without modifying the skin. The incisions are made from inside the nostrils and through these it is possible to modify the bone and cartilage of the nose in order to give it the desired shape. This technique reduces the width of the nose. It is also possible to reduce the size of the nostrils, as well as making the tip thinner when it is bulky, by removing some of the cartilages that are set there. Sometimes, in order to improve the overall facial harmony, it is advised to perform other procedures along with the rhynoplasty, such as the placement of a chin implant.
